Stevens-Miller Racing “Arrive & Drive” Team – Recap: First Energy Mid-Ohio 100

Columbia City, Indiana (August 15, 2018) –  Three cars, from three different manufacturers, were on the agenda for complete prep, hauling, full crew support and spares.  SMR is widely known for their Prefix built Dodge line up available for rent.  But this weekend was also involving their newly engineered Ford Mustang, and servicing a Chevy Camaro.

The Berryman Ford Mustang rolled off the trailer sorted out and competed among the top-6 in each practice session. In qualifying it looked to be in contention for a Top-5 qualifying spot before a misfire sidelined the car. The SMR team made the decision to switch to a back-up car and start in the back with the proven #49 Dodge Challenger and made quick work of setting the car up over night. From the green flag the orange and white #49 Berryman Challenger picked its way through the field to go from the back to the 8th a quarter way through the race. In a position to begin fighting for a Top-5 the move to the front ended there with an uncharacteristic  broken differential.  Even with this issue the #49 driver, Ethan Wilson, is still leading the Rookie of the Year title chase.

The #11 Sublime Green Dodge Challenger would see a new customer coming to the team, competing in both their very first road course event and Trans Am race. The driver, progressed through each session, improving their lap times with each session and ultimately moving up through the field through consistency and attrition to be in 12th position with 10 laps to go. Being new to the series and long race length, the driver opted to pit for more liquids and to stay out of the championship leaders way, vowing to return to several more races this season.

The #76 Chevrolet Camaro piloted by Anthony Honeywell, was rock-solid throughout the event, running just outside the top-10 in pace in each session. The SMR team focused on providing in-depth driver coaching to assist in improving lap times and consistency and by race time was rewarded with the fastest laps of the weekend and a strong drive up the order to finish in 7th overall and 1st place in the Northern Cup. The #76 is currently leading TA2 Northern Cup points as well.

Next up for the SMR team is the Ryan Companies Road America Classic, August 23-25 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.  For more information on this series, please visit www.gotransam.com
