Columbia City, Ind. – This weekend’s Trans Am presented by Pirelli at Brainerd International Raceway marks the beginning of the second half of the season. Stevens-Miller Racing (SMR) and their primary driver, Mike Skeen, sit in second in the TA2 championship after a strong showing at Road America.
Team Owner Joe Stevens said, “Setting a new track record and taking pole over so many good cars and drivers at Road America was amazing – but we came to win. Mike bringing home our No.1 Liqui Moly, Turn 14 Distribution, Camaro in second helped us close the gap to the leader but now we must push even harder if we are to be champions for the third season in a row.”
Skeen added, “We had a great car at Road America but now we must regroup and go for the win. We have two track records so far, but we only have one win. Now it’s time we reach for the championship lead and put up some wins!”
After a record-setting number of entries at Road America, Brainerd will see the smallest field to date. Although there are only 19 TA2 cars entered, all of the frontrunners will there. While some teams have added drivers to help their lead driver, SMR will has only one car entered.
“It’s going to be ‘elbows out,’” Stevens said. “Teams have brought in additional drivers to help their primary driver. Adding more cars and drivers capable to win will make for a real battle up front. We won last year, so we know we have a good set up. Mike will give it his all and the entire team has a single focus – to put Mike on the top step of the podium. It’s time to win and we know it, now we must execute. Every year is tough in Trans Am and especially in TA2 and this year is no different. Chas Howe and his team have given us an excellent chassis to work with and it’s been a great car all year long. Liqui Moly and Turn 14 Distribution have stood by us and now we need to do what we do and put it on top of the box.”
The Speed Tour weekend is open to all spectators, so if you are in the area, this is an event you will not want to miss. Live streaming of the event will once again be available on the Trans Am App. A delayed telecast will also be available on YouTube. Be sure to catch the action live, in person or through the live stream.
